Lucie Pouchová

Lucie Pouchová (*1981) is a Czech painter whose work has long focused on figurative painting and psychologically inflected portraiture. She is currently studying in Painting Studio IV. led by Marek Meduna and Petr Dub at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, which she entered after more than a decade of professional experience in the field of social work. This background fundamentally shapes both the thematic and ethical foundations of her artistic practice.
In her paintings, Pouchová depicts figures who avoid direct contact with the viewer. They appear withdrawn and often static, yet the core of the image lies in their inner world in quiet processes of contemplation, isolation, and gradual healing. This mode of concentrated, introverted existence runs throughout her work and is particularly evident in portrait cycles devoted to people living alone, often in the company of animals. The animal is not a secondary element but an equal participant in an intimate relationship that replaces or redefines human closeness.

Formally, Pouchová works with colour as a key expressive tool. She applies it freely, sometimes in contrast to the gravity of the subject matter, creating layered tension between content and painterly gesture. Within individual works and entire series, she combines different painterly approaches, ranging from subdued, contemplative surfaces to more expressive interventions that enhance the psychological ambiguity of the depicted scenes.

Lucie Pouchová has presented her work in solo and group exhibitions in the Czech Republic, where it has resonated with current tendencies in figurative painting and painterly reflections on the human psyche.
