Mark Ther
Mark Ther (*1977) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (Painting Studio II/Vladimír Skrepl School) and completed a scholarship at the Copper Union in New York. He works mainly in the field of video art and moving image. His videos with their content often deal with controversial topics and are typical of careful, almost cinematic processing, preparation and realization. These are funny but sincere acts, which are typical of the confrontation of taboo moments, references to pop culture and suppressed subjects. In his videos, Ther thematizes camp and queer aesthetics, Sudeten German culture, the deportation of Germans and Nazism, and often moves on the border of a fictional documentary. His films speak the language of music videos as well as the narrative conventions of feature film and personal reportage, while providing comic relief to important social issues. He presented his work at foreign exhibitions and film festivals, for example in Berlin, New York or Cologne.
