Matěj Pokorný

Matěj Pokorný focuses on figurative art in his work, exploring physicality, emotionality, and identity. He works with the contrast between order and chaos, which is also reflected in his use of materials—he combines concrete with ceramics or bones, expressing the fragility of the human body and the rawness of matter. He uses figuration to visualize human experience, including the limits and patterns of behavior that shape us. He perceives painting as a means of expressing emotionality and the subconscious. The motif of the head provides him with a structure into which he inserts instinctive layers. Automatism helps him discover new forms and visual languages, not as an end in itself, but as a tool for mapping thought connections. Recently, he has focused on connecting abstract shapes with figuration, reflecting cyborgism and transhumanism. He is interested in how the body and consciousness are transformed in the context of technology, which is reflected in both his paintings and sculptures. His work is a record of the inner world, which communicates with reality through material.
