Ondrej Filipek
Czech sculptor (*1993, Rožnov pod Radhoštěm) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in 2018 (Sculpture Studio I, J. Róna, 2013, and L. Rittstein, 2014–2015; Figure Sculpture and Medal Studio, V. Míča, 2016) – 2018).
Filípka's work deals with the deformed human figure, which rather resembles an inanimate object, a plinth without a sign of prominent features and emotions. The character gives a feeling of forced static or impossibility to move, which serves as a metaphor for a person put in an anxious situation. The construction principle of his installations then reminds of an effort to find one's way in a world that has lost fixed points. This phenomenon is also supported by the absence of lower limbs, which in his case are replaced by prostheses directly connected to the base. In combination with materials such as plaster and wax, it gives the sculpture an impression of rounded softness, but it remains cold, impersonal, and the figure's soul seems to passively surrender to life.
Ondřej Filípek has extensive exhibition activity behind him, he exhibited for the first time in 2018 at the group exhibitions Against Nature in the Trade Fair Palace and Possibilities of Dialogue in the Salmovský Palace of the National Gallery in Prague, in the same year he also had a solo exhibition in the Stone Projects gallery. A year later, a joint exhibition with Jakub Janovský Šest prstů was held, and he also presented himself, for example, in Trafo Gallery in Prague or Kabinet T in Zlín. The works of Ondřej Filípek can be found in a number of private and institutional collections.
